In April of 2019, our licensees in Japan successfully installed an GEPS system at Azabu High School in Tokyo with the goal of tracking and publishing a report on the results. Observations started in February, before any GEPS were installed to create a baseline of water infiltration on the problematic site. On February 28, nearly an inch (23mm) of rain fell on the area, the next day water was still pooling on the surface as shown in the “before” photo. On June 10th, 2019, three months after the GEPS system had been installed, over 3.5 inches (90mm) of rain was recorded falling on the area, almost 4 times the amount of February 28th. Historically this would end with the playground being oversaturated with water pooling on the surface. The “after” photo below shows that the next day the school yard had no such problems and students could use the grounds for their activities immediately.

With repeated positive results after each rain event, the report concluded that the drainage has been improved at Azabu High School by the GEPS installation.
